I took the time to have a cup of herbal tea with a friend recently and we started talking about the ‘chaos’ of modern life.
I’m acutely aware of the fact that the holiday season is upon us. In fact, my husband mentioned to me only yesterday that he could feel the commercial frenzy increasing at a rapid rate.
I only have to take a look at my email inbox to concur.
There is also the added pressure here in New Zealand that the entire country ‘closes down’ for the Christmas holiday period. This time of the year coincides with our summer holidays (really, they should be in February...but that’s another post entirely) so everyone gears up for the race to the end of the year.
It’s exhausting!
I just go and hide out in my safe space and pretend it’s all not happening.
Distancing myself from the chaos has been a learned skill.
I say, “No” a lot.
Try it.
It’s a complete sentence. There’s no need to add a, “because…” a simple no is a show stopper and can save your sanity as the chaos erupts around you.
I also write lists.
I love lists.
They’re a life saver.
I should be called, Toni ‘To Do’ Kenyon ;-)
Back to my friend. That’s what we were talking about. Putting together a simple ‘To Do’ list.
It doesn’t have to be anything fancy.
A page in a notebook with the date and a list of things to do.
In a former life, I used to be an expert at complicating my life--now I’m about simplifying it as much as possible.
Try a to do list and begin to craft some calm from the chaos of your life.
Yours in love & gratitude,
Toni x
